LIST OF DECEASED
The Notebook
This notebook was given to us by a lady living close to the Cemetery. It contains a list of names in both Hebrew and Romanian, we assume they contain the same names. The notebook is in a bad shape, disordered, and probably some pages are missing. (This part contains only the pages in Hebrew. We have a Romanian part of the list as well that probably contains the same names.)
We need help from the people that speak Hebrew to create the accurate transcription of the names from this scanned document.
We plan to create a digital book with all the persons buried in the Jewish Cemetery in Târgu Frumos.
List of deceased, in Romanian
Here is our Excel list, where we wrote the names based on the photos of the pages in Romanian. There is a high possibility that we made some written mistakes. For some names, it was challenging to understand the hand-writing or it was not visible due to the condition of the papers. We hope that by merging the two documents, we will create a correct list.
In some cases, the death month is from the Hebrew calendar, and some are missing the year or even the complete date of death.
The list has only 497 names, even though there is information that there are over 5000 persons buried in the Târgu Frumos Jewish Cemetery. The oldest date of death is 12.01.1900 (Riva Moise Pincu), and the latest is 26.06.1955 (Sosa Marie Covrigeri). On the last visit to the Cemetery, we saw at least 20 stones dated before 1900, which means that the book is not complete.
