ARCHITECTURAL PLAN

The cemetery currently

The state of the cemetery is in shambles now, covered by weeds, unfit for visitors and quite chaotic. Many of the graves are unreadable which makes it hard for relatives to identify their loved ones.

This plan was created by Ziad Ameen from Arts Lab 6.0,

he is an interior designer and visual artist from Egypt.

The Plan

This is a proposal to save and rehabilitate the Jewish cemetery in Târgu Frumos as part of the city’s heritage and also to commemorate the victims of the death train tragedy in 1941. We take into consideration not to touch the individual graves, the mass grave or any stone of historical value. The work will be to make it more organized and add some important elements, such as planting 640 trees in the cemetery, adding a pergola and informational banners and benches for visitors.

The pergola

The pergola will be a place for visitors to communicate and to hold events and art exhibitions. The main walkway will guide the visitors through the cemetery and the seats alongside the path will make the visitor experience better and more comfortable. Our aim is for the cemetery to be a place of commemoration and a cultural center simultaneously, this will allow us to spread awareness among the people of the city.

The memorial banners

The informational and visual banners will help visitors learn about both the tragic and the beautiful aspects of history and cultural heritage. Interactive parts in exhibitions and museums are always popular with people of all ages, implementing them in our design will make learning less exhausting and more rewarding for our visitors.
